Seeing Before Knowing
It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.
The difference is small and enormous. A window holds light; your eye holds attention. This morning, before naming anything, before sorting the day into tasks, you might notice what's actually there instead of what you expect to find. Not the general shape of things, but the particular weight of them. The specific angle at which your attention lands. This is what Thoreau meant. Not vision as passive reception, but as a choice repeated moment by moment.
Question for today
What are you looking at without actually seeing?
Practice
Before checking your phone, pause and name one specific thing in your immediate space - its color, texture, or position - with real precision.
