Hidden Wholeness Asks Nothing
There is in all things an invisible fecundity, a dimmed light, a meek namelessness, a hidden wholeness.
What if the work of the day is not to become more, but to notice what is already complete in the ordinary. A cup holds water. Your hands hold warmth. The bay asks nothing of you except that you show up, look, and let the light do its work without naming it. This is the practice: attention without improvement. Merton knew that wholeness hides not in the bright places but in what we pass daily without seeing.
Question for today
What small thing in your morning routine might already be whole, if you stopped trying to fix it?
Practice
Stand still for one minute. Name silently what you sense without judgment. Salt. Stone. Cold. Light. Nothing more.
