Horizon Holding
Watch the line between water and sky for ten uninterrupted minutes.
The horizon moves slower than anything else you can look at.
How to practice
Find a flat place. Phone away, or flipped face-down and silenced. Fix your gaze on the line where water meets sky. Don't stare hard, let the eyes relax. When thoughts arrive — they will — imagine them sliding left along that line and out of frame. Return to the horizon. Repeat.
After ten minutes, blink slowly three times. Notice whether the horizon moved. It probably didn't. Notice whether you did.
Why it works
Fixed-point gaze meditation slows the vestibular system. Looking at the slowest-moving object your eyes can find teaches the nervous system a pace the news cycle never does.
