Attention Without the Argument

Mindfulness is deliberately paying full attention to what is happening around you, in your body, heart, and mind. Mindfulness is awareness without criticism or judgment.

This morning, notice what happens when you stop negotiating with what you feel. Not the grand moments, the small ones: the temperature of your coffee cup in your palm. The particular ache in your left shoulder. The thought that arrives unbidden and uninvited. Attention means you can see these things clearly without immediately labeling them good or bad, wrong or right. It is the difference between observing your breath and arguing with it.

Question for today

What small sensation or thought have you been avoiding calling by its real name?

Practice

Sit for one minute and notice one bodily sensation without changing it or naming it as good or bad; simply feel it present.
