Joy After Counting
Be joyful though you have considered all the facts.
The facts are always available. We know the weight of them, the smallness we occupy, the brevity. What Wendell asks is not that we ignore this arithmetic but that we pass through it. Joy is not the opposite of clear sight; it arrives on the other side of it, like a hand extended after you have looked directly at loss and still chosen to open your eyes tomorrow.
Question for today
What small true thing can you notice without needing it to mean something larger?
Practice
Sit with one worry for two minutes without fixing it, then name one small fact that is also true right now.
