The Heat Inside Winter

In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.

Winter teaches subtraction. It strips away what is decorative, leaving only what sustains. Camus points to something precise: the summer is not borrowed from elsewhere. It is already there, beneath the cold, patient and intact. This is not optimism. It is the simple fact of your own heat, the metabolism that keeps working whether you notice it or not. The practice is noticing. Not generating warmth. Recognizing it.

Question for today

What small heat in you has been working all along, even on the difficult mornings?

Practice

Before you move from stillness, place your hand on your chest and feel one full breath enter and leave your body.
