Daily Bread for the Eyes

The sky is the daily bread of the eyes.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sunrise No. 156

What nourishes doesn't always look like food. The sky offers itself every morning, asking nothing but a glance. Your eyes know this; they have always known how to receive. Before you check your phone, before you plan the day, there is light arriving in layers, color turning the air into something you can almost taste. This is basic sustenance. Not metaphor. The eye fed is the whole self steadied.

Question for today

What would change if you treated the sky the way you treat your first cup of coffee?

Practice

Step outside before 9 a.m. and look up for one full minute without moving your eyes away. Let the light land on your face.
