Doing One Thing All the Way
This is the real secret of life: to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now.
Attention is mostly small. It is the weight of the cup before the first sip, the heat moving into your palms, the sound the spoon makes against the rim. It is noticing that you are already composing the day's first email and setting it down, gently, like a stone you meant to keep. Nothing needs to be improved here. The work is only to arrive, and then, when you drift, to arrive again.
Question for today
What are you doing right now that you are only half doing?
Practice
Hold your cup in both hands for one full minute before drinking, noticing its weight, its warmth, and the moment your mind tries to leave.
