The Depths Before Kindness
Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
Sorrow is not a problem to solve. It is a teacher that softens the edges of the small self, making room for genuine tenderness. When you stop resisting the weight of loss, disappointment, the ordinary ache of being alive, your hands become steadier. You recognize suffering in others not as an idea but as a shared grammar. This is how kindness learns to speak without sentimentality, without rescue fantasy. It becomes a quiet permission.
Question for today
Where in your body do you hold the sorrow you have not yet named?
Practice
Sit still for three minutes and place one hand on your chest, one on your belly. Notice what temperature lives there, what texture, without trying to change it.
