Self, the First Threshold
The first and best victory is to conquer self.
Most mornings we wake already at war with ourselves: the plan we broke yesterday, the word we can't take back, the body we're impatient with. Plato isn't speaking of ambition here. He means the small surrender, the moment you notice you're holding your breath and let it go. Conquest isn't force. It's the quiet choice to stop arguing with what is true about you right now, and begin there.
Question for today
Where are you most at odds with yourself this morning, and what would accepting it cost?
Practice
Pause before your first decision today. Take four slow breaths, one in each corner of your body, then exhale from the center.
