Rejoice for What You Hold
He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.
Grief for absence is a habit, one we practice without thinking. But notice what happens when you stop mid-morning and actually name what is present: the cup in your hand, the light at this particular angle, the breath that arrived without your asking. Not gratitude performed, but simple seeing. What you have has been here the whole time, patient and actual. The work is not to manufacture joy but to interrupt the smaller work of wanting.
Question for today
What one thing in your immediate reach deserves a second look?
Practice
Name three objects within arm's reach right now. Do not evaluate them. Simply say their names aloud, slowly.
